Durga Puja - A Big Festival
This is the season of festival & specially Bengali people all over the world celebrate their main festival Durga Puja with great enthusiast. In every year goddess Durga comes in new form. In this year she will come with Palki. Palki is Bengali word. It's meaning is Palanquin; Sedan Chair. The word Palanquin is derived from the Sanskrit word Palanka meaning coach and Palanquin is also called Palki. For 2024 Durga Puja, Ashtami is on October 11, and Navami is on the next day, i.e, October 12. The five-day celebrations would culminate with Goddess Durga's immersion on October 13, Sunday. It is significant victory of Goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-shifting a Assura, Mahishasura . Victory of good over evil, though it is also in part a harvest festival celebrating the goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and creation. The Puja is performed in homes and public, the latter featuring a temporary stage and structural decorations (known as pandals). The festival is also marked by scripture recitations, performance arts, revelry, gift-giving, family visits, feasting, and public processions called a mela. Puja Mandaps in Bangladesh & India are typically decorated with lights, a canopy, and a raised platform. Streets are decked up with festive lights, loudspeakers play festive songs as well as recitation of hymns and chants by priests, and pandals are erected by communities. During Durga Puja people make a variety of foods, including bhog, which is food offered to the goddess and then served as a meal, and other traditional dishes. People wear traditional clothing for Durga Puja, such as Sarees, Salwar Kamiz, Punjabi, Pajama & so many colorful attire. The Saree is an integral part of the Durga Puja attire. It presents our culture and tradition. Colors hold immense significance in Bengali Durga Puja. For Maha Ashtami, the classic red sarees or red and white Durga Puja saree symbolises purity and devotion. The famous dishes of Durga Puja are: Aloo Posto, Dhokar Dalna, Luchi With Cholar Dal, Shorshe Phoolkopi, Mishti. These are also mouth watering dishes. People enjoy the every day of Durga Puja with great enjoy. They greet with each other. Actually Durga Puja is celebrated all over the world. The idol of Ma Durga, was symbolically made on a relief in an imaginative coin on which was written "UNESCO.s recognition of Bengali's Durga Puja as Intangible Cultural Heritage 2022".
